Filipina Nyomy Jaycee Obcemea…“Although I was born in America, my parents taught me the Filipino culture and morals. I’m just proud to be a Filipino. If I have to, I’ll play in the Philippines for a year as an amateur and do anything and everything to get to the top,” she said.

With so many good lady golfers around, namely, Chihiro Ikeda, Dottie Ardina, Cyna Rodriguez, Mia Piccio, Sarah Ababa, Anya Tanpinco, among others, will she be up to the challenge?

“Absolutely! That’s the very reason why I work so hard everyday. I pour in about five to eight hours a day of practice,” said Obcemea, who is also a member of the Utah Professional Golf Association.

Dorothy Delasin gets the My-Day-Stunk-But-I’ll-Still-Talk media award for the year. I needed to interview Delasin for a couple assignments that were due sometime yesterday, and she was gracious enough to discuss all topics, including her opening 90 at LPGA Q-School.

Yes, 90.

“I think I lost eight balls in the water today,” said Delasin, who hadn’t been to Daytona Beach since she received her Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year Award in 2000.

Not many players would be so amicable after such a round. To say 2009 was a rough year for Delasin would be a massive understatement. She failed to make a cut in 16 events.

Carlos Briones, a 14-year-old from Hayward, California, made history as the youngest champion of the prestigious San Francisco City Championship golf tournament.

Mr. Briones bested California University freshman, Mr. Jamie Core, by a 3 & 2 margin over 36 holes in the finals at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco.
