Already, there are those experts debating whether he is the greatest fighter ever — better than Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali — better at his craft than anyone who ever has laced on a pair of gloves. And at a time when boxing has descended so in popularity, Pacquiao has come to mean almost as much to his sport as to his country-people.

…Cecil Mamiit disposed of a pretender from Cambodia, Filipino-American Treat Huey took care of a more onerous business and the Philippines is guaranteed of a second tennis gold medal in the 25th SEA Games on Wednesday.

Mamiit handily beat Cambodian Tan Nysan, 6-1, 6-2, to arrange an all-Filipino final for the men’s singles crown with Huey, who booted out top Thai 2007 champion Danai Udomchoke, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

The morning after Mamiit and Huey labored to win for the Philippines its first tennis gold medal—the men’s team—on Saturday, Mamiit told Filipino scribes Huey would take care of bundling out Udomchoke, who was picked to repeat as men’s singles champion. READ FULL STORY>>>

…What’s next you ask? Even I don’t even know the answer right at this moment. As I still try to catch my breath from the last race, I know that one can only try so many times to shoot that half-court shot, blindfolded and backwards until it’s time to pack things up and go home. I love the sport of snowboarding. I love racing. I love the Philippines and the opportunities that I’ve had to literally fly my country’s flag down courses around the globe. It’s been a great journey – and it’s been a great mission. Mission Impossible? READ FULL BLOG>>>

…After a long drive of tears and mini-meltdowns, an overnight stay solo in the middle of nowhere where I could just be, seemed to be what I needed.  The next morning I felt miraculously refreshed and motivated again. I think the emotional outpouring gave me the chance to exercise a few demons that have been plaguing me for the past few weeks, and to dig deep down to figure out what my heart and spirit really want. And after peeling back and ridding myself of all those layers of fear and self-doubt, what my heart and spirit really want is to get to the Olympics. READ FULL BLOG>>>

My start number was in the thirties, a wonderful welcome from the usual high sixties and seventies that I’ve been accustomed to in Europe. My qualification run was against a World Cup rider that I’ve known for many years and has been consistently a few seconds faster than me. It’s always great to race against someone that is faster because it pushes you. I knew that I really had to go for it/go all out/let it all hang out/go for the gusto/put the pedal to the medal/flip the switch/be all in yada yada yada if I wanted to get into the finals and have a chance at those points. J.R. Celski is being referred to as the “next Ohno”, a comparison he solidified with five medals at the 2009 World Championships. He was at the top of his game and on the verge of realizing his dreams when he was involved in a horrible accident.

Short track speedskating can be vicious, as athletes jockey for position, and Celski suffered a 6-inch cut, all the way to the bone, that looked as bad as it felt. Read Full Article>>>.

As a Filipino-American, she is active in Philippine typhoon relief. She is involved in campaigns against domestic violence. Perhaps more than anything, she views herself as a role model for young female athletes — specifically boxers — and continues to work with youths as an instructor at WestWind’s martial arts schools in Alameda and Berkeley — where she also trains. Back to Q-school

Dorothy Delasin gets the My-Day-Stunk-But-I’ll-Still-Talk media award for the year. I needed to interview Delasin for a couple assignments that were due sometime yesterday, and she was gracious enough to discuss all topics, including her opening 90 at LPGA Q-School.

Yes, 90.

“I think I lost eight balls in the water today,” said Delasin, who hadn’t been to Daytona Beach since she received her Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year Award in 2000.

Not many players would be so amicable after such a round. To say 2009 was a rough year for Delasin would be a massive understatement. She failed to make a cut in 16 events.
